Complimentary Happy Visits
Going to the dentist for the first time can be scary, especially for young kids. Panatella Dental provides complimentary happy visits for children under the age of 3 to help them understand that dental offices are safe, and even a little bit fun!
This first visit is usually short and involves a brief dental examination. This complimentary “happy visit” is designed to allow your child to meet our dentists and hygienists in a non-threatening and friendly way.
Your Child’s First Dental Exam
The examination itself will be brief but comprehensive. A dentist or hygienist will check your child’s teeth for decay, examine your child’s bite, and scan the gums, jaw, and oral tissues for any potential problems. At subsequent dental visits, we will slowly introduce new procedures. For example, at the second visit will clean your child’s teeth, at the third visit we can introduce polishing, at the fourth visit your child will be ready to receive fluoride treatments with your permission. We recommend that children have x-rays taken after they reach their 5th birthday, but we may recommend them earlier if we see signs of tooth decay.
After the examinations and cleanings, our dentists and hygienists will discuss their findings with you, go over any needed oral health care instructions with you, and relay any dental developmental issues they may have noticed. As always, there will be time to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
When Do Kids Need to See a Dentist?
Regular visits to the dentist are an essential part of maintaining oral health. Ideally, it is best to take your child to the dentist between two and three years of age, and every six months afterwards. The earlier you begin, the better chance your dentist has to prevent problems, which is a lot easier and less expensive than fixing them.
