The Science & Benefits Behind BOTOX® & Dysport Treatments

The use of Botox Cosmetic and Dysport to reduce the appearance of wrinkles is on the rise, with the number of treatments administered in North America during 2015 reaching over six million.

Here are some of the things you need to know about these cosmetic treatments before pursuing them.

The Effects of Botox & Dysport Treatments

When administered by injection, the compounds in Botox Cosmetic and Dysport temporarily relax the underlying muscles, which results in a lessening of facial wrinkles. The effects may last up to four months with Botox Cosmetics and up to 5 months with Dysport.

The Botox Procedure

The time required for a Botox Cosmetic treatment is about 10 to 15 minutes after a full photographic series. Treatment recipients a commonly describe the injection sensation as a mild pinch.

The compound is injected sub-epithelially, and effects may be observable within 7 to 10 days. Minor bruising may sometimes occur at the injection site. Should this occur, it will fade within a few days.

General Dentists Administering Botox

A dentist may not be the first person you think of to administer a Botox treatment. However, in Alberta, dentists were given the green light to offer patients cosmetic treatments in 2014. These treatments may help complement smile design and may be used as therapeutic remedies for bruxism, TMD, and headaches.
